The New America: What the Last 5 Months Have Taught Us About Power, Protection, and Who Gets to Belong

Five months into 2025, and the transformation of the United States is no longer a whisper—it’s a roar.
In a matter of weeks, we’ve witnessed a coordinated and strategic campaign to rewrite the rules—about wealth, about belonging, and about power. This isn’t partisan. This is structural. What’s happening now will touch every home, every business, and every legacy if we’re not prepared.
🧭 Project 2025: The Blueprint for a New Regime
None of this is accidental. Much of what we’re seeing aligns with Project 2025—a comprehensive plan created by the Heritage Foundation and other right-wing coalitions. It lays out in granular detail how to overhaul the federal government by:
Dismantling independent agencies
Expanding unchecked executive authority
Politicizing the Department of Justice and civil service
Reshaping immigration, gender identity, voting, and even birthright citizenship

🏛️ The “One Big, Beautiful Bill”: What’s Really Inside
Passed by the House and now before the Senate, the so-called One Big, Beautiful Bill is being marketed as pro-growth tax reform. But beneath the surface, this bill reshapes the American legal and financial terrain.
Key provisions include:
Making the Trump-era tax cuts permanent, including lower rates for estates and trusts
Raising the estate and gift tax exemption to $15 million, reinforcing dynastic wealth
Eliminating sunset provisions that would have phased out those cuts
Restricting the enforcement power of the federal courts
Providing Trump Regime the Power to suspend elections
Section 70302 of the bill limits the ability of federal courts to enforce contempt citations unless a bond was posted when an injunction or restraining order was issued. This is critical because many public interest cases are exempted from bond requirements. Without a bond, courts may be unable to hold government officials accountable—even if they blatantly violate court orders.

⚖️ The 14th Amendment Under Attack
Meanwhile, the Supreme Court is preparing to rule on a direct challenge to birthright citizenship—a right guaranteed by the 14th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution.
The 14th Amendment was passed after the Civil War to guarantee citizenship to formerly enslaved Black Americans. Its language is unambiguous: "All persons born or naturalized in the United States...are citizens of the United States."
Today, that guarantee is on the line. If the Court rules against birthright citizenship for children born to undocumented immigrants, millions—particularly Black and brown children—could lose access to U.S. rights, protections, and status source: TIME.
This is not just about immigration. It’s about redefining who gets to belong.
🗳️ The Systematic Dismantling of Democratic Access
Layered atop this is a quiet but forceful erosion of democratic participation:
Voting access restrictions in multiple states targeting communities of color
Legislative efforts to reduce judicial oversight and weaken independent checks
Executive orders redirecting enforcement tools toward vague "anti-American" conduct, opening the door to targeting dissent and protest
These actions are aligned with Project 2025’s goal of centralizing control and removing the tools citizens use to fight back.
But amid all this upheaval—where laws are shifting beneath our feet and the systems we once trusted are being quietly dismantled—we cannot afford to look away. We also cannot afford to freeze.
